My senior design capstone : A micro community hub to enable urban dwellers a chance to build community in their neighborhood, easily and with their busy schedules.
Many people move often, do not know their neighbors, and create community elsewhere, but creating community within the streets you live is vital to feeling a sense of belonging, and when people discover their power to change things themselves, anything can be possible.
With this design concept, people can share things with eachother, leave gifts for strangers, learn to maintain a small vegetable garden, watch wildlife in the birdhouse, and share books as well. There is even a toy chest, a small stool, and a light to illuminate at night (in the works).
The final product may look very different as this first iteration is just up and I will learn alot through more research. Plywood is not a sustainable material that would survive long term, so non leeching HDPE plastic containers and a metal frame is the direction that seems to be best for many environments.
Future iterations include community vegetable growing and sharing, with potential for integration into apt. living and urban spots without yard space.
