+ Box project in Woods Class

 This project taught me so many things. I think overall I have come a long way and really look forward to our next project. The box is more of a briefcase, possibly a modern toolbox for future design jobs. Dimensions are roughly 4"x13"x18".  The frame is made of hard maple, the panel inlays are cherry and the splines are american walnut. I spent many many hours on it.  Its currently sitting in my room empty, but i have faith i will think of something to use it for soon.

its been about six months since i last made a screen and did some printing. i have slowly collected and designed 4 or 5 new images for the spring and summer. the first step was removing the dark green goo that is photo emulsifier from used screens...

 This waterlily plant was frozen under ice in the garden pond for two months last winter. It's taken all summer to produce this single bloom - but it was worth waiting for....

+ Rhombi and Lozenges

The word "rhombus" comes from the Greek ῥόμβος (rhombos), meaning something that spins,^[2] which derives from the verb ρέμβω (rhembō), meaning "to turn round and round"

The definition of lozenge is not strictly fixed, and it is sometimes used simply as a synonym for rhombus. Most often, though, lozenge refers to a thin rhombus—a rhombus with acute angles of 45°. The lozenge shape is often used in parquetry and as decoration on ceramics, silverware and textiles. It also features in heraldry and playing cards.
The lozenge motif dates as far back as the Neolithic and Paleolithic period in Eastern Europe and represents a sown field and female fertility. The ancient lozenge pattern often shows up in Diamond vault architecture, in traditional dress patterns of Slavic peoples, and in traditional Ukrainian embroidery. The lozenge pattern also appears extensively in Celtic art, art from the Ottoman Empire, and ancient Phrygian art.

+ Pikas

pikas are not mice, they are in the Lagomorph family (rabbits) and are insanely adorable.
they live in the mountains and gather plants, eating flowers, leaves and all.

+ rediscovered

 i recently rediscovered my grandpa's camera that he gave to me in high school.  there was a roll half exposed within the camera so i took the rest last week, crossed my fingers, and got it developed and put on CD. here are the results! The pictures of my friend Jessica and I are at least 2 years old. I plan on taking more pictures with my camera and experimenting with things i am learning in my digital composition class.

this blur is at first frustrating, but maybe it was a ghost, or the light of his bright aura being captured in this antique cameras' pentaprism onto film.

+ receiver is ready

after storing my records for about 3 years now, i finally found a receiver to hook up with my record player and speakers.  the back room studio of our house can now blare old bob dylan, Yes, and Fleetwood Mac records with the wonderful aesthetic crispyness of old fashioned vinyl.  i pods are wonderful, but to me, the magic of older times will never be replaced.

+ Acrylic Geometries

 In plastics class we had to design a display constructed from acrylic. I chose a geometric shape, tested it in illustration board, configured the required angled cuts for the band saw, bought 1/8'' acrylic and went to work.  This display filled with sand contains and advertises jewelry, a perfect accent for a local boutique counter top.
 I am pretty happy with the end result although the welding of edges was not easy.  I plan to make more shapes including the Platonic solids, in various colors, intended for outdoor lighting with electric candles and yes, they will be coming to burning man this year.

+ kentucky lap loom

this was just for fun, the finished product is a rectangular panel that could be used as 1/2 a bag, folded in half and made into a tablet case, a placemat, or whatever your mind can come up with.  i make my yarn out of old t shirts.

+ cutting board project

The past month has been filled with fun and challenging projects at school. Our first woods assignment was a cutting board. My best buddy Janelle was my partner in this project and now we have twin cutting boards, separated at birth made from walnut board we hand picked at the lumber yard and step by step formed and designed together.

 This is a rare meteorological phenomenon called a skypunch. When people see these, they think it's the end of the world. Ice crystals form above the high-altitude cirro-cumulo-stratus clouds, then fall downward, punching a hole in the cloud cover.
