+ The Coastal Redwoods and giant inland trees of Calaveras County

an old friend. trees are worth listening to.

Texture for days straight up to the sky. Today I explored the big trees of calaveras county. Giant ponderosas, cedars, and firs next to sequoias.

Light from a sun ship within the canopy of a coastal redwood beaming my consciousness into the heavens.

A stone butterfly joint from 12th century Spanish monastery stones reconstructed in the botanical gardens into mystically beautiful courtyards, benches and planter beds.

the gardens were imperfect, overgrown, mislabeled, wild and disheveled but magically beautiful,
mysterious and transporting

+ How to pick yourself up out of a bad mood

Ever get stuck in a bad mood? Or one where you feel as if you have no motivation or clarity? Here’s some tips to help.
1. Open the windows and curtains.
This not only brings fresh air into the room, but studies show that hospital patients heal faster with windows within sight in their rooms and students with windows in the classrooms display improved memory.
2. Freshen up.
Brush and floss your teeth, clip your nails, do your eyebrows, and/or get a massage. These simple things can improve self confidence and just make you feel better in general.
3. Organize!
It’s not as if I like cleaning, (alright, maybe I do..!) But organizing can basically pull me out of any rut. There’s something about seeing order; clothes color-coded in the closet, dishes stacked perfectly in the kitchen, a spotless desk with all the pencils pointing in the same direction.
4. Take a walk!
SURPRISE! One of the most obvious but most helpful things to do. It clears your head, gets your heart pumping, and reminds you that you’re not the only person alive.
5. Do something that makes you focus, but isn’t too hard.
Try drawing, coloring, writing, anything creative that you don’t feel too bad about!
6. Caffeine.
The title speaks for itself.
7. Alternatively, take a nap.
Sleep rejuvenates the body and mind, improves mood, helps you feel awake, and most of all, it’s relaxing.
8. Just do something!
Go outside and do anything! Anything that gets you out of bed and boredom! If you can, then grab a book and go to a coffee shop!

+ star stuff

“The surface of the Earth is the shore of the cosmic ocean. On this shore, we’ve learned most of what we know. Recently, we’ve waded a little way out, maybe ankle-deep, and the water seems inviting. Some part of our being knows this is where we came from. We long to return, and we can, because the cosmos is also within us. We’re made of star stuff. We are a way for the cosmos to know itself.” - CARL SAGAN

+ Ghost of a Sabertooth Tiger

Charlotte Kemp-Muhl and Sean Ono Lennon's psychedelic Rock/surreal folk group. Amazing show, amazing artists. Sean even signed my LP after the concert.

+ camping

Barely june and I got myself up to the mountains! Hot sulphur springs, a hike in fraiser experimental forest, and camping off 34 in the countryside by a beautiful reservoir. It felt so good to get away for a day, renew my lungs with the mountain air,  renew my spirit with the colors of the land.

a very friendly beautiful horse we ran into along the way

Our campsite on Willow Reservoir was a grove of aspen trees. we saw ospreys flying above us at sunset.

+ 5 years with his gentleman

logically we spent our anniversary enjoying food and the outdoors. delicious tea, coffee, raw juice and brunch before a stroll in the gardens and a skate in the park.
